Default Using your engines to entice marlin

Here is something new to me that worked really well in Cabo when dropping baits back on marlin that had come into our trolling spread.

Once a marlin(blue or stripey) comes into our trolling spread we instantly drop back live bait or dead skip baits on the lure closest to where the fish was last seen. Many times the marlin never returns for the bait, especially with blues(just my experience). In talking to a local deckhand about this problem he suggested that I rev the engines in nuetral, varying how long and alternating between the 2 engines.

The next morning out we went and within 4 hours we had a nice blue in the spread. We got the bait(12lb. live bonito) back on him straight away but he wasn't intersted. The marlin looked to be long gone but I decided to try my friends technique. I began revving the engines, alternating the tone and the frequency and sure enough it worked. Within a minute the blue came screaming in close to the stern all lit up ready to eat the props off, till we hand fed him our bonito. 2 hours later we released a healthy 350lb. blue.

We have continued to use this technique and have found it pretty successful. It doesn't work every time but it has worked enough to make me a believer.

Just a little tip I thought I would pass on.

Fish Hard,
Chet

Default RE: Using your engines to entice marlin/makos too

Have used a similar idea mako fishing - basically starting the engine when drifting when a shark seems to have lost interest and they usually come straight back too the boat.

nice idea though I'll give it a go this season

cheers
