Default RE: Giant BFT tackle advice&opinion

phil,

this is just not the right way to target giant tuna. please e-mail me or call me at 310-205-6258 and i'll be glad to help.

fyi - whiting will not live trolled at 3 to 5 knots. i don't know if bluefish could live long while slow trolled, but if they could it would be at 1 to 2 knots, is my guess.

the tuna are often feeding on sandeels, while they will eat bluefish, you want bait that they are more likely to be feeding on. whiting, ling, even cod (so few left, and mackrel - but none around) are better baits most of the time. bluefin are very very difficult to hook and then to catch. to make it harder by wanting to catch you own bait seems to be making it as difficult as possible for yourself. jasko's idea of trolling a deboned bluefish under a speader bar is proven to work. i know that flats of chum, and flats of freash mackrel are very expensive, but they are worth it.

i commercial tuna fished from chatham, p-town, gloucester, etc. for many years. i think i can be of help.

good luck.

joe
