Default Striper Bill Fish Report

8/18/2008
Evening 4:00pm - 8:00
Departed out of Dana Point to look for some more Dorado. Was advised to go to the 209 spot; picked up 1 Tellowfin (30#) and 1 Dorado (small). Water temp was 70

8/23/2008
Morning 5:00am - 11:00am
Departed out of Dana Point with the following route and water temps:
spot temp
209 68.9
181 69.3
182 71.0

We could not get a single fish out of 209 or 181. Radio messages were dismal for these areas as well, 209 much worse than 181. I followed a transmission to a location 4-5 miles Northwest of 182. The water temp improved dramatically and enjoyed a wide open bite of Yellowfin of the same class. My boat (4 anglers) grabbed 13, we could have had much much more if we had two more sets of arms. These fish were boiling like crazy...great day to say the least.

The seas were absolutely flat and smooth, this makes covering the distance to the 182 quick and easy. Mako sharks are abundant, we must have seen 5 sitting on the surface between 181 and 182.

I did hear reports of a Marlin being caught in the same area of the 182. I am sure it was a private boater...I have no other information.

This is the first time posting. I hope this information helps, if not for catching Yellowfin...hopefully finding and catching marlin. Good luck everyone.

Default RE: Striper Bill Fish Report

Thanks, Bill - this is a great example of exactly what we're looking for!

Let's face it - most of the time we head out to catch marlin we're going to come home disappointed. But we don't come home empty-handed - we have a lot of information that we can share just like this.

For example, I'm heading out on Tuesday morning, so this is exactly the kind of data I want to try and decide where to go - or not go.
