Default Let's Talk About Advertising ...

No, I don't mean advertising at SCMO (although if you want to, you know where to find me). Actually, this time I'm talking about advertising for SCMO.

We're going through an upgrade period at SCMO, and one of the things I'm considering is advertising in various media in order to get a little more attention in the big game fishing world. But advertising is something we've never done, and I really have no clue about it or its costs.

Unfortunately, it appears that it's not one of those "here's what it costs and here's what you get" kind of things. In my first two attempts to get information out of other sites about what they would charge for advertising, I never did get a straight answer (although one of them did offer to buy the site - either a really good sign or a really bad one ... probably the latter). In each case, I felt like that guy walking up to the high rollers table while still carrying the "how to play" book in my hand - I could practically hear them licking their lips.

So my question goes out to those of you "in the business" who already deal with this stuff on a regular basis. I'm hoping to learn anything I can about the advertising game - what it costs, good places to go, pretty much anything you can pass along that might shorten my learning curve. You can reply to this message, or PM me if you prefer.
