Exclamation Password Reset Troubles

As you know from the welcome message to the forums, our returning visitors must reset their passwords the first time they visit the new forums. For some reason, this is causing a lot of people trouble, and I've had to reset about 50 passwords manually. That's fine, but I'd rather we use the system the way it's designed, so here's a description of how to use the process:
1. Each registered user to the forums received an email message with a link that can be used to start the reset process; you can follow that link or use the one in the welcome message - no matter which you follow, they both take you to the Password Reset page.

2. There is a space on the Reset page to include your email address. If you followed the email link, it's pre-populated; if you followed the forum link you'll have to type it yourself. It's very important that this is the email address you used to register; otherwise, the program won't recognize you. It's also important that this is still a valid email address, because this is where the program will send your reset instructions. If you've changed your email address since you registered, or have any other problems along the way, email me your username and choice of password and I'll reset it manually.

3. After you enter your email address, you'll be asked to read six digits and enter them in a field. This is part of the SPAM fighting software; if you have trouble reading the digits you can select the link below the image to get some new ones to read.

4. Once both fields are filled, select the "Request Username/Password Now". This will send an email to your address with the link to reset the password. At this point, the password has not been reset, so if you don't get the email you can just retry the process.

5. When the email arrives (it'll be titled "Your login details for MarlinNut Forums"), follow the link in the email. This will actually reset the account, and generate a second email with the new password information.

6. The second email, titled "Your new password for MarlinNut Forums", will include your username and new password. Once you use these to log in, you will automatically be taken to your profile page where you can change your password to something memorable. Enter the new password you just received, then the new password twice, and save the changes.
To be honest, I don't know why so many folks are having trouble with the reset function, because it works fine for me. If you still have trouble, though, just drop me an email and we'll get it worked out.

You cannot be a sportsman and not care about the fish. You can be a fisherman, but not a sportsman, and no self-respecting angler should settle for being just a fisherman.
