And yet another South African
Hi everyone from sunny South Africa!
I seem to know most of the other South African's on this forum - maybe our marlin community is just small since our country certainly isn't!
The east coast of South Africa has seen the most amazing marlin season in years. Our competitive season starts in early November and runs to March/April, and it certainly has been busy! Most of these competitions are run from locations where a surf launch from the beach is needed, so the boats used are what we call skiboats (up to 28ft, but mostly around 21ft, fitted with twin outboards). As an example of the good fishing we've had - during the recent Cape Vidal comp, just over 20 boats entered and over 4 days there was a 121 hookups and 70 releases.
On Saturday the Marlin Interprovincials start in Richards Bay (it would be like an inter-state comp), directly after that followed by the SADSAA/Columbia billfish classic, our biggest yearly competition. This is an IGFA accredited comp with the winners being invited to the following year's world championship. Richards Bay is a good venue with a large harbour, so there will be a mix and match of boats, from small 16ft boats to the largest sportsfishers.
I believe Mr. Finnseeker will be arriving on Friday to pre-fish the SADSAA, I hope we get to meet more of you over here soon!
Cheers,
Nico
