Default Transfer braid from reel to reel

Guys,

Happy New Year to All,

I searched the net but couldn't find what I'm looking for and hope some one can help, I have 80W spooled with 150lb Powerpro hollow core and wish to spool this to another reel.

Question is what is the best way to spool onto another 80W, should I simply set the drag on the reel with braid to have enough resistance and wind onto the new reel so it packs tight.

Can I just spool from reel to reel or should I run through the guides?

Thumbs up Re: Transfer braid from reel to reel

I've done it both ways.
Rod to Rod throught the guides is easier and the results are better, take your time crack a cold one.....or two, there's a lot of winding to be done.
Reel to Reel without the rod is a lot more difficult, it's harder to keep the line tight (and even) with those bigger reels but it can be done, easier with two guys at a pinch.
Let us So Cal guys know when you catch a fish it's been so poor down here for the last few years most of us have forgotten what a marlin looks like.
Photos will help us recognise the real deal for this summer.
Do they still have bills ?
Good luck to you my friend. Have a great season.

Better just to get the Jerry Brown hollow core spectra, great stuff, easy to work with and stronger than a mule.

good luck

California has some great carp fishing on fly, check it out tell the long billed carp show up.

Thanks I have JB to go on the Tiagra after I remove the PPro, I am giving a Tica 80W to my son and want to transfer the PPro from the Shimano and spool the Tiagra with JB. PPro has only seen the water 3 times so its near new line and reason for changing is that I want to go lighter and bit more capacity.

I would consider using a different method to tension the line. Using the drag that long will be equivelant to about two or three years drag use.

If you can do it on yer boat and make use of the rod holders yer chore will be easy. One cranker and the other holds the side of the reel spool with leather gloves

Mikey,

Thanks for that, I was also not happy about using the Tiagra drag as the load and rather the drag washers get a work out from a Marlin.

Won't get a chance to get on the boat but will have a buddy doing just as you suggested, he doesn't know it yet but will rig him up in a stand up harness sitting down with rod fixed while I do the cracking to make sure line is applied properly.

What he doesn't know the jobs not over because he can apply the brake on the spool for the JB that will go onto the Tiagra.
