I finally got to really play with my tube (Black Bart Bad Guy
Bad Guy - Steelers) today (report
7/29 Trolling off Jupiter). Conditions were nice and flat -- seas less than 2' out of the east with a slight SSE breeze. I ran it both in the long rigger and long corner positions.
Do tubes need rigger lift?
My understanding from reading here is that tubes are long position lures, corner or rigger. When I had it in the rigger I got an explosive pop to the surface, but never a 'tube' of water shooting in front of it. When it was running in the long corner slot, it was running from the tip, which all my corner baits do -- unless pulled down with a flat line clip (or frequently just a rubber band). In this position I got a much less aggressive pop at the surface, but a longer subsurface run where it looked like the lure was running in its own 'tube' of smoke/bubbles.
Was I "doing the tube" today?
