Default SoCal blue marlin 2015 - will it happen?

Hey all ... do you guys think another blue marlin (or maybe more than one) will be landed in SoCal this year? Has there been much interest in trying for them at all?

No question. A number of guys - even those running for tuna - are pulling a blue marlin lure in the spread ...

Hey Dustin,

Yeah, So. Cal. Is buzzing with Marlin reports these days. Here's a report from BD Forums from earlier this week:

"The marlin have been everywhere. We watched a guy land one on the Middle grounds Sunday on a 15' Hobie. Heard there were three hooked that day between the middle grounds and the horseshoe. Yesterday, there was non-stop chatter about marlin being caught between the 150 to the north shoe. I believe one guy was two for two on the 150 Crazy crazy year!!"

Here's the thread:
150 - 8/10 - Marlin | Saltwater Fishing Forums

I happen to be over here, away from my local Okinawan waters sneakin in a little big of fishin with my brothers, and it's wide open for pelagics like never before it seems. We didn't have a billfish spread out because our crew were going for yellowtail, so picked up a decent one at Catalina Island. No marlin, but was fun to get this one anyway on a 30# outfit :-) .

Cheers!
Nojiri

Interesting. Where do you guys think the first capture or confirmed release will happen - near where last year's fish was caught or somewhere else - and how big might it be?

I'm wondering if a swordfish angler will spot one on the surface - I have definitely seen them finning out in the past but have never had the opportunity to put a bait on them SoCal style.

Hey Dustin,

Here are pics of a stripey C&R just 8 miles out in Santa Monica Bay!:
