06/19/2006: "She Was a Serious Journalist Once, Right?"

If you had any doubt about why CBS chose Katie Couric to take over the Evening News instead of recalling Connie Chung, this video should set you straight.

Once upon a time, CC was part of the short list of Important Women In Journalism - CBS' answer to Baba Wawa. We all cocked our heads to the side and wondered when she married Maury Povich, but we figured she knew what she was doing. Apparently we were wrong.

She and Maury hosted a show on MSNBC for the past year. You probably didn't know that and, therefore didn't watch. You probably don't know that it was cancelled, either, for the same reason as you didn't know about it. Not content to go quietly into the night, Connie closed out the run with a statement that say something like "Marilyn Monroe meets Courtney Love meets American Idol Reject". I guess you'll just have to watch ...

How do you follow up that? I think her only options now are going to be limited to Animal Planet and Oxygen ... crazy

Yeouch !
after a very short while I decided to watch it with the sound off.

But surely folks can forget that while she's presenting the News ?

We (in the UK) have a charity day on the BBC (no, not Bahamas Billfish Comp!) where most of our News Readers do some "cheesy" musical routine (mind you they did a song from South Pacific one year, and it wasn't that bad) but they've still got their jobs.
