07/06/2006: "And Another Thing ..."
So long as I'm ranting about Hollywood, how about the way it scours the Earth for the next new starlet, then tears her to pieces once she reaches the media eye?
Case in point: This is Keira Knightly. If you saw Pirates of the Caribbean (1 or 2), you already knew ther to be a talented, Oscar-nominated actress. Yes, she has flaws - like an absolute absence of breasts - but she is still a beautiful girl.
Yet rather than celebrate the fact that she has accepted herself for who she is and avoided the no-doubt-significant pressure to go under the knife for a pair of bolt-ons, the press would rather attack her. Over the past weekend, when she should be able to enjoy the spotlight at the premiere of her latest movie, she had to defend herself against a round of articles declaring her to be anorexic.
"(The press) said to me yesterday `How does it feel to be called anorexic?' and I had no idea that I was," Knightley said. "I'm not saying there aren't people in the film industry that suffer from it, because I am sure that there are. But I'm quite sure I don't have it."
Thin, yes, but anorexic - just look at that round face!
It's no wonder so many young starlets who start out as individuals all end up as the blonde-haired, silicone-breasted, collagen-injected blow-up dolls the movie machine demands ...
