07/17/2006: "Terra Firma Feels Pretty Good"
Nothing better to wake up to than the sight of space shuttle Discovery gliding to a safe landing in Florida. This mission was everything NASA managers could have wanted it to be, and the one thing they needed it to be - boring. No surprises, no controversies, no issues. Just get it up, git 'er done, and get it home.
We will never have the innocence we had before Challenger, nor the confidence we had before Columbia. But hopefully, the final few years of the shuttle program will allow us to complete the International Space Station and build momentum for future programs.
Well done all hands!
