07/19/2006: "It's a Long Way to the Top ..."

Greetings from sticky St. Louis. I'm writing this from your basic roadside box-style hotel, watching what passes here for traffic slide by on I-270.

I knew it was gonna be pretty opressive here, but man ... what a sauna! The good news is that while spending the afternoon at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (the Arch to the rest of us), I was in an underground air-conditioned building. That changed quickly when we headed up the tram to the top of the arch, as you might imagine. I asked the docent working at the top how he could handle it - he just grinned and pointed at his fan.

It's a long wait in a lot of lines, but the vantage is worth it. Now if only there was something to see from up there ... Anyway, this is what you see looking straight down - and it's a long way (600ft)!
