07/25/2006: "To Hell With Driver's Licenses - Time to License Parenting!"
This is a quote from a parent talking about her daughter. I'll let you read it before trying to put into some kind of context:
"She has a flair for the dramatic," Patricia Ann Kay said. "I have never tried to stop my children from doing whatever they want. As long as they are happy, aren't hurting anyone, and it's keeping them out of the poor house."
The daughter whose childhood she is describing is Linda Kay, a 31-yr old New Jersey exotic dancer at - get this - an all-nude juice bar. She was arrested today when the police responded to a report of a possibly suicidal person at the address and found a severed head in a jar of formaldehyde on a bedroom dresser. Oh, and there were also 6 human skulls in the bedroom.
Apparently, Ms. Kay isn't a murderer, just someone with a macabre need to collect things. She's free on bail for as-yet-unnamed charges, and her mother must be soooo proud ...
Look, I'm not going to try and tell you how to raise your kids, but we should damned well hold the parents accountable for the results. Aside from the obvious fact that our society hangs in the balance based on the ability of those raised children to perform, I ought to be able to get my juice in a skank-free zone ...
