07/28/2006: "Multitasker in Chief"
These are tough times in the world. People are killing each other in Bagdad. The Israelis are trying to push Hezbollah and Hamas into the sea. Folks are starving in Darfur. It's a lot for a president to keep straight.
That's why I feel so good knowing that today, after his lunch with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and before his afternoon meetings, President Bush will take time from his busy schedule to meet with the contestants from American Idol 5, who are currently on tour. I'm sure his advisers would probably like to have time to schedule another security briefing or such, but, hey - you gotta make time for the important things.
What the hell ... aren't we supposed to be at war? Why doesn't anyone act like it. The troops are enjoying Pizza Hut and movies in the Green Zone, and the President is schmoozing Kat McPhee. We're becoming so goddamn comfortable with the whole thing, there's no real incentive to end it, is there ...
A cynic might think this rant was just an excuse to run a picture of the aforementioned Ms. McPhee ... and they'd probably be right ...
