Just some thoughts on the baseball trade deadline, which passed about an hour ago ...
- Surprised that Alphonso Soriano is still a National. He's a free agent at the end of the season, and they've shown no indication that they'll do anything but let him walk. Passing on what must have been a big stack of potential deals could be an expensive mistake.
- Not surprised that Greg Maddox was dealt. Knock-me-down shocked that he went to the Dodgers. Sorry to see Cesar Izturis go, because he's a talented dude. If this was a year ago, I'd be really scared. Paul DePodesta always acted like he was the smartest guy in the room, even if he wasn't. Ned Colletti just might be the smartest, especially when it comes to baseball. I guess now we're gonna see ...
- The Marlins just ended a 5-game set with the Phillies. This is one of those character-builders, and we went 2-3 - not bad, considering the last 3 5-game series we had we were swept. It looked like it might be a good series, when the first game was a 4-1 Fish victory and Ricky Nolasco tossed 1-hit ball. The next 4? 12-3 Phils, 11-5 Phils , 9-2 Phils, and today 15-2 Marlins. A real pitchers duel ...
