10/02/2006: "A Cry For Help or Just a Dumbass?"
There was a brief moment in time when George Michael actually mattered. First as the singer for the proto-boy band Wham! and later as a solo artist, Michael has several decent hits. For the last decade, though, Michael has managed to remain in the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons. First it was the bathroom act and subsequent arrest that forced him out of the closet, then it was a string of drug-related arrests.
The latest episode in this sad tale came yesterday when he was arrested after being found slumped over the wheel of his car. During a search of the vehicle, which was obstructing traffic, marajuana was found.
"At about 3.22 am (0222 GMT) on Sunday morning officers were informed of a stationary vehicle with a driver inside causing an obstruction" in north London, the spokesman said, declining to confirm the identity of the driver as a matter of routine.
He was taken briefly to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The singer's partner, Kenny Goss, told The Sun that Michael had nothing to say. "He's fine and I've got him a McDonald's," he said.
This was the third time this year Michael has been found asleep in his car in such a fashion. I know we all need a few extra zzz's as we get older, but I'm thinking that's not the case here. And with the support of a lover who thinks a Big Mac is the cure to all problems, I see only good things on ol' George's horizon - how 'bout you ...
