10/18/2006: "Say a Prayer For a Good Man"
There's a lot of crap on the internet. Frankly, most of the stuff out there is crap, and I've been at it long enough to be able to tell the difference. I have a small cadre of websites I visit regularly, and they've had to earn their way onto the list. Usually, it means providing something no one else does, or doing a better job than anyone else.
One such site is Ron Fineman's On The Record. The site provides the insight into local LA TV news that only could come from someone who's been there. And Ron is just that kind of guy, having been a reporter for both radio and television in LA and elsewhere in California. He has credibility and integrity, two things that don't often come together, and as a result the people in the business trust him with information you simply won't get elsewhere. The site is a fascinating read, and one of the few I pay to support.
Over the years, Ron has fought an on-and-off battle with colon cancer. It's been in remission several times, but now it's back and looks to be serious. You'd never guess that from Ron, though, who must be the most upbeat individual you could want to meet. But he announced yesterday that the site would be going on hiatus so he can dedicate himself fully to the fight, and I worry that it might be worse than he lets on.
All we can do is be supportive, of course, and say a prayer for Ron. I have - you should, too.
