10/25/2006: "Black Eye For The Black And Blue"
When it comes to marlin fishing, there's no bigger tournament than the Bisbee's Black and Blue. Billed as the "World's Richest Fishing Tournament", this event happens at the end of October each year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Last year's tourney gave out $3.8 million, and this year they've got over $4 million in the pot. This is a biiiig event.
Apparently not bigger than Mother Nature, however. Today would have been the first of three fishing days were it not for Tropical Storm Paul. Downgraded overnight from a hurricane, Paul passed just south of the the tip of Baja - close enough for the port captain to order the port closed for yesterday and today. The organizers will meet later today to determine how to reschedule things and give the over 300 teams a shot at the big money.
Man - wouldn't you have loved to be a bar owner in Cabo last night? All those tourney anglers fired up and ready to go - and with all morning today to sleep off the hangovers!
