10/27/2006: "Eye Candy For A Cause"
There are two things that are basically true about all of us. First, we are basically good people, and given the chance, will do the right thing. Of course, doing the right thing isn't always easy, so sometimes we don't do it even though we know we should. The other is that we are consumers - if it can be bought, we'll buy it!
You'd think by now someone would have figured out how to combine those two traits to do some good in the world. Oh look - someone has! U2's Bono - whose portfolio as a humanitarian is threatening to outshine his Hall of Fame rock career - has teamed up with Bobby Shriver to form the Product (Red) campaign. They've convinced major retailers such as Apple and the Gap to offer special red editions of their popular products, with a portion of the proceeds going to the effort to end AIDS in Africa. Pretty smart - and trendy!
What does this have to do with our Weekend Eye Candy, you ask? Simple - just check out Christy Turlington's ad for the Gap. One of the first to have the tag Supermodel applied, Christy is aging much like a fine wine. She attributes it to yoga; I attribute it to genes. Whatever the source, it clearly seems to be working.
Oh, and when you get done staring, please consider picking up a (Red) item or two. My personal fave is the red iPod ...
