12/22/2006: "Ho-Ho-Holy Cow ... It's Christmas Already!"
Hard to believe but true - it's the weekend of Christmas. Time for all you last minute shopper types to get off the sofa and wade into the mall. For me, it's the end of a long, tiring, but very rewarding work year. Now I get the next 10 days off before it all starts up again.
Most of that time will be spent AFTK - away from the keyboard - so the entries will be spotty if anything. So just in case this is the last one beforehand, let me wish you all the merriest of Christmases. And if your religion, culture, or personal beliefs dictate that you celebrate a different holiday - or none at all - may you enjoy this time in the manner of your choosing.
Being a geek at heart, I love anyone who goes that extra mile to tech up for Christmas. No one has gotten more mileage out of a CPU, some lights and a really big electric bill than Carson Williams of Mason, Ohio. He's the guy whose home display became an internet sensation last year as well as the subject of a Miller beer commercial. His display, set to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's rocking epic "Wizards in Winter" got him enough publicity that this year he's had to move to an amusement park to accomodate the crowds.
We'll harken back to a simpler time with a tribute to his 2005 display, courtesy of YouTube. Enjoy the show, and the holidays!
(My advice is to start the video, stop it, and let it load before restarting. Once this baby gets going, you won't want to have to wait for the next segment to load!)
