10/29/2007: "On The Bright Side ..."
Feeling a little draggy this morning? Having a tough time getting started? Wonder why it's still so dark?
Me too. Turns out, yesterday should have been the day Daylight Savings Time ended and we got our hour back. But when the Bush Administration changed the DST rules - and screwed up automated software systems everywhere - it pushed the change to next week. Now, some items have updated the algorithms that determine clock settings, but not everything, leading to confusion for a week. Your computer will tell you it's 7PM, but your cellphone will say 6 - and your VCR just doesn't give a damn what time it is, since it's never right, anyway.
The government claims that the change, inacted as part of the 2005 Energy Conservation Act, saves 1% of overall energy, whatever that means. I'd like to see that contrasted with the cost of changing all the software, and the irate people who get screwed in one way or another by the change.
But sometimes, you gotta take the good with the bad - like this killer sunrise I saw this morning from the Home Office that I'd have missed otherwise ...
