SCMO Internet Portal

What is the Internet Portal?

"So what's with this Internet Portal thing? SCMO's a fishing site, right??"

True enough. But every fisherman who visits SCMO does so via the Internet. The Internet is an incredible resource, filled with indispensible information and opportunities. As a web professional, I see this every day. But the average angler coming to SCMO to get information or participate in the Marlin Club doesn't have the tools or experience to take advantage of all the Internet has to offer.

So, we developed the Internet Portal. Started initially as a single place for our staff to find everything they needed from the Internet, it has developed into a one-stop window to the Web. Our goal is that whatever you need from the Internet, you can get to it via the Internet Portal.

The Portal includes all the favorite features found an the standard start sites like Yahoo, MSN and AOL. It offers a comprehensive search function utilizing the Open Directory Project, the largest human-directed catalog of the Internet. We have live news, sports, business and entertainment headlines taken directly from the major news gatherers, updated every few minutes. the Internet Portal provides live, real-time monitoring of the major stock indices, and the latest weather forecast - along with the ability to search both. It includes everything from the essential - business and people searches - to the entertaining - horoscopes and Today in History. We've also included quick links to the hottest web information and shopping sites, as well as useful tools like traffic directions, maps, dictionaries and calendars. Finally, we provide links to sites we find fun, useful or just plain interesting.

But this is a portal at a fishing site, and we haven't forgotten that. We have graphical links to all of the SCMO family of sites (SCMO, Sharkin' Online and our newly expanded Marine eXchange online auction) and pulldown links directly to the most used portions of those sites - the Marlin Club, Shark Tank and Trip Reporters. We've even included instructions on how to make the Internet Portal your home page, and an email link directly to our staff so you can tell us how we can make the Portal even better.

We often get letters that start out, "I'm a fisherman, not a web surfer ..." Now, with the Internet Portal, you can troll the Internet with the same success as the oceans - maybe even more!

We're committed to bring our visitors everything we can to improve their fishing and surfing experience. Let us know how we do!
